Re: NEW Lever - Ok, it's short, and on top...

Hmmm... Looks like CZ makes a double hammer with screw-ins. I like the old style stock on the Cimarron though. It's a dead ringer for the old Stevens I've got in the safe.

Re: NEW Lever - Ok, it's short, and on top...

Thanks, ND. The post got me to thinking about hunting geese and ducks with a hammer gun like my Grandad did before he became an A-5 man. Tank heavy is okay for the blind, but these days I need to be able to shoot steel. I use heavi-shot on some things, but its pricey. Somehow I doubt that thing has ...

Re: NEW Lever - Ok, it's short, and on top...

Griff, That thing reminds me of my grandfather's old Stevens double hammer that is sitting in my safe. He shot it loose decades ago. I used to use it for pheasants and ducks when I was in high school, but it got a little sketchy to run even with low brass loads. Your gun got me to thinking and I loo...

Re: Remington Expands Model Seven/700 Recall

I've had a couple of Rem 700s and a 660 that I wish I'd never sold. If I still had any of them, I would slap a Timney trigger in and never look back. Given what I've seen come out of Remington and Marlin lately, there is no way they would get one of my guns to work on. The new Marlins that folks are...

Re: Is there such a thing as a good, cheap, light O/U 20ga?

Pete, Please don't take my comments about internet reviews as pointed at you. I did not intend that. I think any gun company can turn out a stinker on occasion. The question is how they stand behind them and fix the issue. My point about the discussion here was about writing off foreign guns because...

Re: Is there such a thing as a good, cheap, light O/U 20ga?

I would not write off Turkish made shotguns. My CZ Bobwhite has performed flawlessly and is many times better quality than just about anything from American manufacturers like Remington and Marlin. Ive shot everything in it including 3" steel and hevishot. It fits me and I shoot it well. CZ sho...

Re: Is there such a thing as a good, cheap, light O/U 20ga?

Look up Yildiz. They are imported by Academy Sports. They are almost too light for some. They have aluminium frames and come in at under 6#. They make both O/U & SXS models. A step up from that would be CZ. They make pretty decent shotguns.

I spent Black Friday hunting in the desert with my dog... Sort of a Brown Friday. I like that much better.

Re: Would you make this trade?

It's all personal choice, but I'm not the sort that would trade a lever for an auto. They just don't talk to me. I have a Belgian A-5 that I keep threatening to trade. I bought it when I was 10 years old because that's what my grandfather hunted with. That's the only thing that has kept it around. I...

Re: Burt Reynolds leverguns.

Six--You appear to have your priorities right. I think I'm still working on it, but when I looked at what Burt put up for sale, I hoped he was saving the good stuff. If I had the kind of money he's had in his life, I think I'd buy nicer toys that what he has listed and would hope to avoid the positi...

Re: Burt Reynolds leverguns.

Burt and Sixgun definitely did not have the same gun acquisition strategy. Lots of random stuff that's not worth much. I'm guessing I can see why he got bad investment advice... or why he listened to it.

Not interested. As mentioned here, seems to be a way to waste perfectly good meat and compromise penetration.

Isn't it odd how most of the people who get killed by predators decide to jog or mountain bike while wearing headphones?

Re: Why didn't the '95 sell better?

As 7.62 and of hers mentioned the success and utility of the 94 was likely the biggest reason. The fact is the 95 was likely just different than they were used to. As far as the whole comfort thing goes, I've tried to like the 95. I've always been a big fan of Teddy, but every time I've picked up hi...

Re: Another lever tactical rifle link

My favorite is that here a flintlock pistol has the same restrictions as a Glock. Toronto must have a real problem with drive by flintlock gun fights! What are they thinking down there? Even in LA they don't need to restrict flintlocks. It is a well known fact that no gangsta has yet successfully f...

Re: Hey Superchicken

I hunt with a pointing dog, but its not the only way. For me, its a good reason to take my dog and shotgun for a walk on the big prairie. As far as eating goes, they are not the best thing going. I compare them to a skinny, dry duck that is easier to overcook. But with all game meat, the challenge i...

In most cases, it is fragmentation that is required to kill quickly with 5.56.
This is exactly why I dont want one for a hunting rifle.

Know the area pretty well, but it's been a couple of years since I've been down there. I'm up in the Panhandle, and there are kitty cats up here too. Most folks don't realize that they are out on the Plains, but they live anywhere there's enough to eat.
