btw the covid19 stuff is total BS.... Wish that were true. Around here, the number of new cases has exploded since Memorial Day and the opening of beaches and restaurants, with multiple deaths reported each day of people of all ages from toddler to 90-year-old instead of one old-timer a week or so....

Re: Nickel plated brass
I have been reloading for nearly 40 years now. There are reasons to like nickel cases, but I have not found extended case life to be one of them. A typical batch of, say, 100 cases will suffer one or two mouth splits after one reloading, three or four after the second, and so on. Meanwhile, plain br...

My .45 is a Rossi Model 92, 24" octagon barrel. The terrain I hunt is very similar to yours, and I could make a pretty good argument that this rifle and cartridge are ideal for deer in this environment.

Replacement stocks for all models of the Marlin 336, which is essentially what you have, are made by numerous companies -- in fact, almost any company that makes replacement stocks. The major variations would be straight buttstock versus pistol-grip, and barrel band versus capped fore end.

You're doing the right thing to ask for suggestions, and there are a bunch more of them out there. The .45 Colt is a great cartridge to load for, and many of those loads use very versatile powders. I have a Blackhawk that I shoot with a Ruger-only load, but the Colt clones are absolutely my favorite...

For a factory-level load it's hard to beat 9 gr. of Unique under a 255 gr. lead SWC bullet. Now, it won't come anywhere near filling up the cavernous .45 Colt case -- few powders will --, but if you hand charge your cases and visually inspect each one before seating the bullet it'll never be a probl...
