Made some candles today using a vintage candle mold, worked pretty good, if ya heat up a 19 mm socket and stick the big end of the candle in it it sizes it proper to fit a candle holder. Also made a couple molds. :) https://i.imgur.com/ZaU8Jghh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uZ1I8jDh.jpg https://i.imgur.c...

We, (19 year old son and I) are in the midst of doing an "in frame" on our back hoe. It's an Allis 180 to start with but was factory modified to a 918 hoe. We've got all the parts in and everything we pulled off is out of the Caustic Soda vat and ready to be assembled. Yesterday's Tractors...

Wow Rockratl, I have 2 Winchester 73 SRCs in 44-40. One was made in 1885 and the other is about 3 years old and of course Miroku. I can't tell much difference in them. I even traded the links out in them just to see if it would work and it did. Of course the old one is worn 'till it's sloppy loose s...

Re: 1873 Winchester iron receivers
Is it a 44? Probably. My experience has been that my SRC, made in 1885, has a barrel that slugs .431. I opened up a mold to cast a bullet that size and just pan lube them. I don't know about the cast iron but suppose they never changed to forged steel. You can buy new links that are of the finest st...

What I remember about the Thuer was the tapered cartridge that loaded in from the front and was held in place by the taper. Kinda like drill bits with tapered shanks.

Lefty Dude, That conversion ring on your 1860 looks like a Thuer style. So how does the cylinder use rimmed cartridges? Never saw one of the 'Newer' Thuer conversions operate. Or am I wrong about the conversion plate or ring. M M Wright, Nice conversion and that shorter barrel is sleek. I still lik...

I've had really good results with XTPs in calibers from .357 to .458. I've recovered several 200 grain .429s and .452s from deer (sabots in muzzle loader) and all expanded in classic fashion. I load the 125 grain in 38s for my Cobra but doubt they will expand very much out of it. Forgot to say that ...

I too have several old Weaver K 2.5X, most with post reticles. There is even one on my traditional muzzle loader. And one on my Browning High Wall, but the 2.5X on my BLR is a Redfield. The one on the ML is so old there were no caps on the adjustment screws.

I've killed several deer with my 45-90 using 325grain, gas checked, bullets cast from 30:1 and going 1600 fps. I've no idea if they expand or not as I've never recovered a bullet. I frequently use 44-40 for whitetail and I load 200 grain RNFP that are cast from 20:1 alloy but I think 30:1 would be better. The 180 you spoke of would be quite adequate in my opinion. Limit your range to about 125 yards and you'll be fine. This one made it about 15 yards. https://i.imgur.com/sTKt...
