all in what you want to use it for. have the RIA. 4" in my nitestand. carries well, shoots the 230gr. hp. everytime. not looking for target or long range accuracy, its more accurate than i can shoot it, and serves it's purpose well.

agree with most, 4x is plenty, maybe something like a burris 4x compact. have the nikon 4x rimfire scope on my blr.308wcf. accurate, holding up fine, but won't reccomend it untill 500 rounds have passsed thru it.

i have one of the knock-off, cheapo rock island 4" barrell jobs. so far its fed the cheapo ranger 230gr. hp. ammo perfectly. the stay in black at 25yards using the 100yrd. small bore rifle target. and i'm not that good a pistole shoot. depends on what u want. i hear the norinco's do the same.

you can probably by a used .30-30 marlin for $150.00 or less. i've seen ammo for $7.99 a box recently. with this combination, you can probbably hunt the rest of your life and not look back. advertisers need to sell new guns, premuim ammo and big moon scopes. they have to eat too.
