Never tried it but, it sounds like it would work.
Drill out the primer hole, turn in a nylon license plate screw and cut it off flush.
Remembered from an old Field & Stream "Tapp's Tips" page.
If you can turn it in from the inside, it can be renewed as it wears.

You are correct.

The 7.62x39 is almost a 30/30 equivalent. Ruger Mini-30, SKS, or AK.

Unlike many states, Missouri's Conservation Department is able to adjust limits as conditions require. Such as during the reintroduction of formerly extirpated species such as beaver, otter and bobcat. Recently, spotted skunk (never plentiful) appear to be in decline warranting closing of the season...

If you're not shooting black powder just get a bottle of Lee liquid alox and coat those bullets and go on about your business. Conventional wisdom is that it is the tannic acid, but I can not prove it. Verdigris is caused by animal fat applied to finished leather after tanning, neats foot oil, mink oil, etc. Latigo leather will also react with brass. Quality vegetable tanned American leather such as "Herman Oak" ...

I had a shotgun with a similar crack.
My local gunsmith stabilized it by drilling a hole lengthwise from inside the tang area and gluing a dowel rod to hold both sides of the crack together.
