I have had both. They are both great guns but I found the Winchester had a smoother action than the Marlin and was less fussy about ammo.

The Uberti is fun but not so smooth and misfires more than any rimfire I ever owned.

I had a 9422M and found it way too much gun for squirrels and cotton tails but perfect on foxes.
I have recently bought a 9422 LR made in 1972 and it is perfect in every way! :D :D :D

It's a shame that the Hornet can't be used in a tube mag. I would swop my CZ 527 FS tomorrow for a lever gun. Its a very useful round, especially in more built up areas. Perhaps someone might scale down a Win.95 or Savage 99 but that is just wishful thinking! 8)

Leverluver, Good point I've never fired a 71 carbine or rifle so I didn't know about how much they kicked. Anyway the rifle is for hunting more than looking at! :wink:

My early Uberti 73 has started to show a slight plum color and I'm thinking of rebluing due to the fact the previous owner managed to scratch just about every part of the gun so bad it looks like it was used at The Little Big Horn! :cry:

I had one of the German made rifles, same design but no plastic bits.
It was accurate and very smooth. if I hadn't just bought a Win.9422 I would definitely buy a Henry. (still might) :wink:

Jason_W I have heard reports that the Winchester Wildcat is quite a tack driver like the TOZ 78 its based on. However if you want a good reliable .22 find a Winchester 9422 made in the USA and a "good lookin'" rifle too!! 8)

Howdy Nath, Great post, glad you like the fourten for squirrels (sorry I ment Squirls)As a kid I started with a single shot fourten so tightly choked it grouped rather than patterned. But it still got me into hunting and I've never looked back! :D

They seem expensive for what they are but I may try one just out of curiosity.

If I can get a Williams WGRS guide receiver sight I'll try that too!

I know if my eye sight fades any more I will just have to put the "carrying handle" back on!!
