That is true Scott. I have done it myself. Last one I shot I used my 1st Generation Colt with Lyman #454190 and a full load of black powder. Instant drop and complete penetration of the skull, top to bottom.

My Dad loaded most of his .44 Magnum ammo with the Keith SWC and 18.5 gr. 2400. He killed deer and hogs with this load and none of them ever said it was too weak. :D

I would say that it's not "sissy" but the wisdom of older age. Why beat yourself up if you can avoid it? That was not always my philosophy but has become so with age. And I wouldn't be as beat up as I am if I had adopted it earlier. :lol:

The 454 will do it! In 1986 Dick Casull demonstrated what he said was "the most" that you could run a 260 gr. cast bullet from the 454. He was punching them through 3/8" plate steel.

Ha ha.. the spring that powered the cylinder bolt was fractured.. the spring hand on that side fell off when I unscrewed it. Yes I got it to unscrew after lots of penetrating oil! Now that I understand the EAA Bounty Hunter is just a Hawes with a transfer bar safety. I'll see if they still make BH ...

My Simply Rugged belt is more than 10 years old ... probably closer to 15. I have cut at least a foot off it since June of 2022. You can see the marks on the belt where I was. Am now down to 34" waist.

Just an idea - we use an oil filled electric heater in our wellhouse. It is thermostatically controlled and keeps the temp just right. I loaded a lot of ammo on the old Lee Loader. The only one that I set off primers consistently were the 30 Carbine rounds. I probably popped 1 every 10 or 15 until I read about reaming primer pockets. :lol:
