Re: Old rifle - 5744
A while ago both Don and I mentioned how easily 5744 bridges and shorts one load and "lengthens" the next load, when using a powder measure. I still use 5744 but I weigh charges. I would even rather dip the charges than use a powder measure. That one bad day (high static???) when I looked ...

The only movie/program I ever saw that had just about everything correct (period, usage, etc) related to firearms was Death Hunt with James Bronson and Lee Marvin. My warm 32-20 (.313 bullet) Marlin loads would be a pretty tight squeeze down a .308 bore 30 Carbine barrel. I have a Uberti 32-20 and can't believe that with all that metal, it can't handle warm (but sane) loads. I think Paco said the same in his article on the 32-20.

Acccording to Davidsons, they haven't arrived on shore yet (at least theirs hasn't). So don't go looking for one too soon. I like round barrels on the 73. Surprised me also but yes, A2 was contracted to produce test ammo and do the testing for the 348. I can't imagine a company farming that out. Evidently even companies such as Winchester can be scammed by a good scammer and Alpin was one of the best (and one of the most abrasive). The A2 dissolution ...

Well Kirk, I think you're SOL on the Starline case length. I got to the shop and my Rem brass is nominal 1.31 and the Starline is nominal 1.28 so it looks like you are stuck with short cases unless you can get more Rem.

I can't recall measuring my Starline so can't help. The Starline is a little thicker in the neck (a good thing I think). Hopefully it won't cause a problem with a tight chamber neck area. I'm sure you have run into that with original Winchesters and newly manufactured brass.

I think the most quality for the buck is the Ruger 1911. It shoots just about as well as my Kimber and it doesn't have to be so dang tight to do it. The Kimber is spooky accurate but with the tight tolerances, it is finicky on ammunition, not so much the bullet style but any miniscule error in dimen...

Great cartridge. I have a couple rifles chambered in it. IMO, the Sharps is not that good of a platform for it. That tiny hole makes for a heavy rifle, no matter what shortcuts (short round or half round barrel). I went saddle rifle (26" HRHO) in 40 cal and it still came out heavier than I want...

You won't even know the lock is there. You have to take off the grip panel to even see it. If you were the "fanatically safe" type, you could drill a hole in the grip for external access to the safety but I don't know one single soul that has ever done that. Doing so is left up to the buyer.
