The most accurate load I had, when I owned my 1895 Cowboy, was 47gr of 3031 under a 300 gr Laser Cast. 42gr was almost as accurate.

A 44mag will work for both pistol caliber and big bore silhouette. I've some .357 mags knock a ram down, but it's the shot placement that matters with the under 180gr bullet.

I've found some good deals on both AA and GB. I called MM93 with a ridiculously low priced #6 Ballard a few months ago. You just have to be patient.

Don't be like the guy that spent $900+ for a used 39A Mountie or the guy that just paid $13,000+ for a Nickle Colt Python. :shock:

The rule applies to "centerfire", rimmed, cases that include the .35 remington.

The "smallbore" rules are different. They just state "22LR ammo".

Just don't show off your bullets to any "by-the-book" competitors. :shock: Hollow points are not "approved". We had to reshoot a match because of one such individual protesting to the NRA Competition board.

Mich Hunter, I do feel your pain. I paid 50% more for the work they did on my 1897, but they did have to case the receiver and replace the barrel. A 150gr can drop the Ram, but shot placement is important....high or in the butt. The 170gr will usually not have a problem. I have seen several of my rounds "splat" the rams and not drop them when they have hit in the lower belly area. Heavier is always better. I use a Speer 170 on top of...

Brownell's still has the discontiued Marbles Sourdough sights. I put the tallest one, .650(?), on my 1894CL and it was almost the exact same height. They had 3 different sizes when I bought mine about 3 months ago. That may be the easiest solution.

How old is the 1893? I think Marlinman93 will be along to confirm this, but if you're getting an older 1893 you may not want to use jacketed loads. He explained to me that the "older" barrel steel was softer than modern and jacketed loads, especially factory,would wear out the bore faster.

IIRC I was 12, at Boy Scout camp, and it was either a Winchester or Remington single shot bolt.

First centerfire was my 30-30, at 38.

First shotgun was an Ithaca 20g, at 14 or 15.

First handgun was 686 at 18 or 19.
