I took a couple days off to take my new to me 32 SPL for a walk in the woods. I didn't see any buck deer, but I did get to reconnect with a beautiful area. I recently picked up a 1907 era 1894 Winchester rifle in 32 Spl at the local candy store. Easiest one was a 5x5 bull. I shot it through the heart at 35 yards with my 308 BLR. It went about 50 feet. I fired the signal shots and 4 guys arrived at about the time I had it gutted. They drug it whole about 200 yards downhill and slid it down a cutbank into the back of a pickup. Hardest one was...

How can a rifle have the "correct" front and rear sights on it and shoot high with the rear sight at the lowest position? Seems that if you did change a sight and the gun doesn't hit where you want it that you would correct the problem. I have had this experience with two Winchesters in th...

Thing I'd be worried about is if the bullet is too long and won't stabilize. Mike Venturino reported that he shot a 300 grain bullet in an 86 in 40-82 in an article he wrote, so it might work. I tried a 325 grain in my 40-82 that tumbled. If you are shooting < 1800 fps in an 86 with a 1:28 twist rat...

For the wood, I look at the wood/metal fit. The wood should be proud to the metal. The hardest place to hide a refinish job is at the wrist and next to the butt plate. If its been sanded at all, the wood will lose that proud edge and looks rounded. The old Winchesters have that redish color, and if ...
