Re: Where to find a Crescent Stock and forearm for Oct Barrel

Hey Rube, I am watching this post intently as I am doing the same build at the same time. Please let me know of any sources you come up with. I also have an idea, I just have to get the guy to call me back. I'll let you know what I find. Tom So far the best source from above is www.treebonecarving....

Re: Where to find a Crescent Stock and forearm for Oct Barrel

I was going to say +1 to http://www.precisiongunstocks.com - same as Precision Gun Works. I can't seem to bring up the site right now so don't know if that's me or the site. Seems to me I remembered a "cowboy" set up for late 94s (post 64s)...but that may be a carbine (butt stock etc) kit...

Where to find a Crescent Stock and forearm for Oct Barrel

I have had some people here give me such good advise on a build im doing so I figured I would ask one more question to the public here. Im looking for a crescent style buttstock that will fit on a post 64 Winchester 94. The rifle was made in 1979. I am also looking for a forearm that will fit the sa...

Jr. and I just got back from town where we stopped at Books a Million. Just as we were headed out Jr. spotted a rack of DVDs for sale. They had the entire series of "Wanted Dead Alive" for $19.95! If there's a B.A.M. near you check 'em out. They also sell the whole set at some Walmarts. I...

That's the difference in supporting the Local small shop. they appriciate and rember You unlike Wally world or the box stores. We have a tiny Sporting Goods nearby that is jammed full of fishing tackle and reloading supplys. Good for You. Yeah, I try to support them whenever I can. I dont mind payi...

Being from Louisiana and living just 20 min north of the hell hole known as New Orleans I know all to well the kind of scum that lives there. I read about this the day after it happened and it made me sick. He was even in his dress blues. For someone to take the life of someone for something so stup...

I have been looking at a model 92 in 45 colt to go with my new vaqueros. I am confused though by the changes in name , ownership, manufacturer etc. of the various offerings. Rossi, Brastech, Puma, Legacy, Taurus, Chiappi, etc. Which ones are current manufacture and how can you tell who manufactured...

How's your 38-55 conversion going. I now have a donor rifle for the action and buttstock, so I am at least moving in the right direction. Did you order any of the parts yet? Tom I have ordered most of the parts including the 26" Octagon barrel. Im getting the receiver prepped the best I can to...

Sometimes you just get lucky.......

Well its not the find of a lifetime or even close but I was happy with what I picked up today. I'll start off by saying that lever guns or cowboy guns in general are not big movers around where I live. I am currently building a 38-55 Winchester 94 and I was happy to find in my local gun shop 2 1/2 b...

Re: Winchester 94 Action Wrench (help removing barrels)

I purchased and use the bench mounted part of the two items shown but I made the hand held part from a 9" and a 30" piece of 2" X 3/4" flat bar. The 9" is drilled on each end for 1/2" bolts and the 30" piece has matching holes so the reciever can be clamped betwee...

Re: Winchester 94 Action Wrench (help removing barrels)

Rube, Griff uses a technique that is very similar to what P.O. Ackley described in one of his books. Ackley advocated wooden blocks, but did not add any suuport to the receiver of a Winchester 94. Here is a short clip of what is involved in removing the barrel on a similarly-shaped receiver (though...

Rube, Yes, that's a '79 receiver. The color case hardening was done with bone & charcoal by a fellar in WY. He no longers does case hardening. I understand that Turnball will as will Classic Guns, Inc. will both do Winchester 94s. They both claim to use blocks inside the frame to keep the frame...

It is probably a top eject barrel with the extractor cut in place for the top eject. You MIGHT have to make minor action changes. Many report no changes necessary. PS - Jesse Ocumpaugh will rebore/rechamber your barrel for you for a modest price and he does very good work. If I was to get a rebore/...

It gave me what I was looking for. You could probably get a darker finish by repeating the process if you desired.

What did you use to brown it like that? I think it looks pretty darn good.
