Model 86 comes home

About 20 years ago I bought a Winchester Model 1886 in 45/70 from a local gun shop. It had JUST come in and was being placed on consignment by a young couple from eastern Washington, a little west of Spokane. It had been his great grandfathers rifle and had been in the family a very long time and pe...

Winchester 92 came home with me

Went to gunshow Sunday in Colby Ks. They had a good number of good to very good lever guns. Found this little 92 in 32-20 takedown for a very reasonable price so sprung for it. Finish has a lot brown in it when out in bright sunlit, the bore rates an 8 and the wood is very good. Hope I can get the p...

I used 23.5 of AA5744 with 1/4 sheet of TP placed on top of the powder topped with a 260gr soft lead bullet. Just curious, did you ever try it without the TP? Granted I don't have a ton of experience with AA5744 but when I was using it in very large cases (i.e. 416 Rigby) it didn't seem to be bothe...

I used 23.5 of AA5744 with 1/4 sheet of TP placed on top of the powder topped with a 260gr soft lead bullet. Very accurate and a mild recoil. The only problem I encountered reloading for the 40-82 is that the necks of some of the new brass was to thick. Check your loaded rounds for neck size. Mine w...

Kirk, all of those early, and later, smokeless cartridges were loaded to relative BP pressures of the day.
