Re: Cast bullet lube
I lube all my cast lead bullets using RCBS lubrisizers. I have eight of them for different lubes and calibers. For smokeless loads I buy White Label lubes simply because they work great and I can't make the same lube myself for less. I really like their BAC lube. Here is a link: http://www.lsstuff.c...

Re: Winchester 1895 .38-72 Range Report #4- We Shootin' Now
I was sure surprised to see this old thread brought back. I have not worked much more with my old .38-72, but I did spring for a new Accurate 382250B three cavity bullet mould that drops a plain base .382" diameter bullet that fits the bore well and does not require use of a gas check. This bul...

So.... I went to the aforementioned shop and sure enough that old Marlin 39A did not sell at the gun show. I gave it a close examination and concluded the bluing is all original and very good. The wood is sound and not dinged up much, and the bore is bright and shiny. It dates to 1948, so what's not...

I went to an annual local gun show today, and things have sure gone downhill for this show. I never would have thought of heating them. That's a good tip. For the ones that fit tight, I have been using a Lyman gas check seater, a simple sleeve device that fits on the underside of the plunger on a bullet sizer:

I think the mould is too cold. At least that was the problem when my bullets looked like that. I use a small travel iron turned upside down on my bench to pre-heat the moulds. They need to be pretty hot to drop good bullets. I keep my lead around 625* in the pot.
