Re: wanting thoughts on Winchester 1886 rifles
The use of 40-82 as a cartridge in the build was asked about using smokeless powder. 40-82 cases are not a good choice and a 40-65 would be better. There is too much room left inside a 40-82 case when using a safe smokeless load...

Regardless of the maker, a drag line is usually a result of the user and how he handles the gun. The defense of different gunsmiths and this particular gun aren't necessary. The truth is that someone did a bunch of work to a single action revolver he thought as worthy of sharing. It is an ugly gun a...

I am wondering how deep the riflings are on your SRC. I have a 1898 vintage model 94 rifle in 32-40, and the riflings are fairly shallow. I don't know whether it was manufactured that way, or if it has just been shot a lot and worn the riflings down. Since your SRC is so new looking, could you look...

Re: wanting thoughts on Winchester 1886 rifles
What's wrong with the original 33WCF barrel? If the bore is good, the 33 is a good shooter and with a nickel steel barrel gives the option of using jacketed bullets. Just sayin' :D This is a valid point. Also I would recommend looking for an original 40-65 and leave the other gun alone. These aren'...

The 30-30 is illegal to use in Ohio for Deer. it is just too under powered for the giant whitetails that abound in this state. I bought it thinking it was chambered in 38-40 as it was listed as a 38 CF. When I got it, it will chamber a 38 special. It definitely isn't 38-40.
