I have to chime in with agreement that $250 for a Marlin 336 chambered in 38-55 is a good deal. I can't think of any big or medium game in the lower 48 that rifle would not be ideal for.

And if it is as well put together as it sounds like it is, I'll bet she is a tack driver.

Mr El Mac....please carefully reread my posts. Elk and other game animals are hemmed in by city, highway, and natural barriers. That is why in the modern sense wolves are so much more destructive. Or put simply if you took an area say 50 mile by 50 mile and fenced it in with say 500 elk and 20 wolve...

I reload for everything I shoot (including 44spl/mag) because I just feel I need to be as independent about such things as is humanly possible.

I think the Whitneyville revolver was called a 'smoot'. I think they date back to the late 1860s and early 1870s.

I have seen them here and there on occasion but don't really know much more than that.

One last thought....fixed power scopes are generally a little more rugged (fewer moving parts) And fixed 2X will have a wider field of view then a variable scope set at 2X.
