I love the way the Kahr P380m shoots, and IMHO, it has better fit/function than the Kel-Tec, and less felt recoil than the Seecamp.32 and Kel-Tec .380. I believe they have a CM version out now as well for about $300.

Use BrentD's method and you can skip the string thing, alnitak. And I'm sure your know that Brent meant for you to use a factory-new case for the test. Both my 30/30's show some excess headspace and yet I've never lost a case to head separation: The old "thutty" must be pretty forgiving.....

I like the early to mid-80's (IIRC) Marlin 1894 with the gold trigger and 18.5" barrel (no safety). Sorry I sold mine some years ago. They are tough to find.

I love the Bisley grips. While I didn't have a .45, I had them in .44 mag/spl and .357/.38. They fit my hand perfectly and tame the recoil. I prefer having a grip I can get all my fingers on, rather than the pinkie under, though others prefer the plow-handle grip.
