Troy has done me right on 2 occasions. The tang sight for an original Marlin 1894 has a stem that is too high for the silver blade front sight. 32-20 is my favorite CF caliber. I've had several Marlin's chambered in it, but currently only have an 1894CL, for silhouette, and a 7.5" Colt SAA. I load a Laser Cast 115gr on top of 9.5gr of 2400, for silhouette, and 3.9gr of HP-38 for the Colt.

With the exception of once per month big bore and pistol caliber silhouette matches, I spend 90% of my time shooting rimfire. Shooting is becoming an expensive hobby. I can't imagine competing in IPSC or Practical Rifle, with today's costs.

Speaking from recent experience. I think, besides sales, that the tooling is worn out on the 1894CL. If you remember they had to scrap my 2007 and build me up one, on a 2006 receiver.

Thanks for posting that, a good lesson for us all!! I have SO FAR avoided this by charging all the cases with powder, checking them with a little flashlight, THEN seating the bullets. I am easily distracted and get out of sync every so often so I try to use a technique that will negate this as much...

9.5gr of 2400 that had become compressed, in the cartridge, may have done more than ring the barrel. I still can't believe I was in such a rush that I bypassed, this one time, looking down into the cartridges before bullet seating

Ironically, both my grandfathers (one a gun guy, one not so much) had Model 74s. One thing I recall is that I quickly learned not to over-lube the bolt assembly. Being young and stupid once, I was shooting without eye protection and that rifle spit a good bit of oil into my eyes. :cry: Fair warning...

When I can afford it I use VV N110 because it will give almost the same exact velocities per grain weight, but without the flash, blast, and mess.

........but 2400 is still my go-to powder for pistol calibers. I've noticed no difference over the years.
