IF I was going moose (and I do not have a .348) I would load up some Nosler Partitions 300 grain .458s to about 2000fps. Or better still, some Garrett 420 +P. I'm sure the .348 is good, but the 45-70 is just way more so for the same reasons.... i like the speer 350 gr flat nose at approx 2100 fps.....

really no need to slug the bore....not like a cartridge gun. here you choose the round ball, in your case, .310 is easiest....then use the patch to adjust the fit to suit your gun and load. the ball and patch combo 'sizes' itself in a sense. dont worry about it.... just try it, you will like it!!!!

have seen several converted to 348; as long as it is one of the later 86s would be fine. not much point in it to me. if you want a .348 to enjoy get the browning.....much better barrels and generally a lot more accurate than the original 348 barrels.
