There is no such thing as an inexpensive biathlon rifle. IIRC they start at $1300 and climb rapidly. However you could get them a decent supply of match grade ammo for a few hundred dollars. My suggestion would be to buy a few hundred of this type and a few hundred of this, and a few hundred of that...

I'm no expert on these things but I have seen some local waterfowlers still using model 12s with heavy waterfowling barrels that were long …… maybe 32" or 34". They like them for the speed of making follow up shots.

I suppose old Gun Digest books would hold the answer for you.

I like short LOP also. this is why I like collapsible AR stocks, and I put on on my shotgun. Helps when going from tee shirt weather to winter coat weather.... Assuming it has been well cared for or restored then I would say that is consistent with what I see in Mid Michigan. Not a great deal but not bad either. IMO "Old" rifles suffer in value these days compared to modern sporting rifles and modern bolt actions in the view a significant number ...

militarily I think the metal storm concept is to replace land mines or air bursts with something more focused. I personally think these have some merit in NON LETHAL rubber or OC pellets. Consider what a half dozen of these around a prison yard could do in a heart beat. Or for riot control on street...
