I've never seen another Ruger 96 at the range or anywhere else for that matter. What gives? 44 MAG is a keeper! True, it runs out of steam before many other popular hunting cartridges, but stalking close is most of the fun.

I owned a .348 for 3 years. Bought it in '73 for $200. and sold it in '77 for $350. It had no checkering or other odornments.

I used the $350. to buy a couple revolvers and took a cute redhead to a REO Speeedwagon concert. Seemed like a good idea at the time. :(

My Grandad (1889 - 1973) hunted all types of western big game with a rifle nearly identical to this one. I shot my first elk with it. The rifle kept its zero year after year.

30-30 is a keeper.

I was about 75 yards away. But I enlarged it twice and cropped the photo to fit.

Many bucks are taken with common 30-30 carbines each year at this distance. The myth of 300 yard shooting is kept alive and well by the magazines.

This photo was taken last week. Its not uncommon for mulies to still have antlers this late in the Winter. Yes, it's still very much winter here.

The buck is in excellent shape. I estimate his weight at approx. 225 lbs.
