I finally got a chance to really look this rifle over. I kinda bought it on a whim. It is MUCH better than I thought. The finger screw on the side releases the side plate for cleaning and inspection. The interior of this rifle looks like new. The bore is pristine! Now I need to find the time to pull...

IMO, it would be near impossible for a case to separate like that, especially an Ackley, if there wasn't headspace or the shoulder being pushed back during reloading. If the case fits the chamber properly there simply is no place for the brass to go. If that case was fired in a lever action of quest...

On second thought, if you do indeed have a headspace problem, the Ackley will exacerbate the issue as the nearly straight sides of the case will grip the chamber better as PO Ackley proved many years ago. I did the math and for my Cowboy Action bullets (38-40=180g) the math works out as such 7000 g in a pound of lead I'm paying $1.45 for a pound of WW including shipping 7000g / 180g = 38 bullets per pound $1.45 / 38 = 3.8 cents a bullet I can buy cast 180 grain 38-40 bullets for $42/500 shipped = 8.4...
