I can't imagine wanting a longer lop but the

Limbsaver nitro grind to fit pad adds 1.5" to lop.

I put one of those on a 10ga break action, but cut 2" off the stock first.

All of the above is good advice. I've cut down several of mine as I put grind to fit limbsavers on all my shotguns after my shoulder got real bad. the 32-40 is an awesome cartridge! In an 1885 you could probably get 2000fps with a 165 gr. bullet if you wanted a deer rifle, or you can load it to original specs ~ 1440fps and have an awesome hole puncher.

all this testing is probably great for your shooting and preparedness, but it's probably also good for making sure that you never actually have to shoot from your stand during deer season.

I'd definitely prefer to not damage the bullets if possible as .257 speer hot cors have been super hard to come by the last few years. I know, I don't get it both ways.

I'm sure that the ridgeline is a great vehicle. You can't go too wrong with a Honda for sure. If it checks all the boxes for you then definitely go for it. I have marlin 336s in both 30-30 and 35 rem and I think the 35 rem does kick more. Not a ton, but a little more. Could be because I only shoot 150gr in the 30-30 and 200 gr in the 35.

I've got a 1969 Marlin 336 in 35 Rem and I really like it. Very smooth and accurate. Seems to thump a little harder than the 30-30. I've killed a couple deer with it. I'd probably pick it over the 30-30 for black bear.

sounds like you have access to .22 shorts. Why not just pull the bullets out of a short and put them in the LR cases? seems like that would be a lot easier than trying to trim a LR bullet down to 29g. after all isn't that exactly what a .22 long is? .22 short bullet in a .22 LR case?

if you can't find any hornady's, I'd email Hawk bullets. They made me some .321 bullets for my 32-40 that shoot great and performed incredibly on a whitetail doe.

I loaded some 32WS last year with the Hornady 170gr and 32gr of 3031. Shot really good and very close in velocity to factory ammo, so that's what I'm sticking with.
