Re: Need help with project...
Well, one of mine is a Trapper. But among the three I have, each is different, so it appears that barrel length/taper might have something to do with it even with the same caliber. So, I'm actually looking for data among all calibers, barrel lengths and dates of manufacture. For example, I'm already...

I have another post on trying to find a forearm for my 94AE in .44mag. With all the uncertainty on what fits what, I'd like to enlist the forum's help in definitely figuring this out. Re: Forearm fit on Win '94s
Somewhere after 92 I think USRAC changed the pistol caliber 94AE barrels from a standard size tapered barrel to a thicker bull barrel. My 85 vintage .45 Colt has the thinner barrel and it's forearm is the same as a 30-30 as best as I can tell. I've seen newer .45s and .44s with the thicker barrel. ...

So, I have this 94AE in .44mag, the one mentioned in another thread where I changed out the rebounding hammer and cross-bolt safety and added the Williams FP sight. As part of the planned mods, I had intended to switch out the factory stock and forearm for an upgraded checkered set. Well, I learned ...

Re: Replacing Trapper sights with Williams FP
It appears that the FP front sight is intended for a ramped sight, which is why it has a lower profile. Yet, the 5D front sight is made for a barrel dovetail. I think I will try to see if Williams will switch the FP for the 5D sight. They also have an add-on dovetail base that increases the height o...

Re: Replacing Trapper sights with Williams FP
If the sight height isn't an issue, though, you might see how you like the Williams FP without replacing the front sight; it may still be so much better than the original 'open' sight that you'll be happy. If you don't mind taking the "risk" [ ] of altering your 'factory' front sig...

Re: Replacing Trapper sights with Williams FP
The original front sight on my trapper ae 30wcf was too low! I welded a blob on it and reshaped it to raise it some eventually. Well, after having the peep sight for a couple of years, I finally got around to installing it and replacing the sights on my '94 Trapper AE. The rear sight was a breeze. Re: .44spl loads in .44mag cases with 700x
What I would do is look at the 700X light loads for a 45 Colt and either use those or figure out how other fast powders reduce from the 45 Colt to the 44 Mag to get the approx velocity I wanted. Interesting...in doing that I get this from the Hodgdon site for .45 Colt 230 GR. CAST LRNFP IMR 700-X ....

.44spl loads in .44mag cases with 700x
I understand that 700x is a fast burning powder that is not suited to .44mag. However, the Hodgdon site does provide data for .44 special and 700x, with between 4.3gr and 4.9gr for a 240gr bullet. Pitchy, the box the handpress comes in from Lee is 4 1/8" x 11 5/8" x 1 1/2", and is a pretty tight fitting box to the handpress (with instructions and a few cardboard flaps). Measuring the handpress itself, I get about 3 9/16" x 11 1/4" x 1 3/8". Hope this helps.
