I just saw the Memorial day flyer for Buffalo Arms. They are discounting all their in stock chronographs by 25%.
If anyone needs one, this might be a good opportunity.

Re: Winchester 86 in 40-82 Deal or No?
The rifling in some 86 barrels isn't real pronounced. I have a 40-82 that was made in 1887, and the rifling is there from one end to the other, but is not really highly pronounced. It shoots really well with those shallow rifling. $1200 for an original non-bubba'd rifle isn't too bad a price, depend...

I bought a 308 in 1977 and killed most of the deer I got and all of the elk I shot. It is a tack driver.... literally. The first time I ever shot it from a real shooting bench, I shot a 3 shot dime sized group at 126 yards. Then I shot the thumb tack that was holding the target up with the 4th shot....

Re: 1886 at gun show this weekend
If you had the cash, that might have been a decent price. If the barrel was 26" and a full length mag tube, all the internals were functional and the sights were correct, $200 would buy an original stock, and the a reline for the barrel would be ~$400-500. (Not real sure on this price.) For ~$1...

I shot a Buffalo Bill rifle in the 70s. I was a darned accurate rifle. It always hit what I aimed at. The owner shot a trotting coyote with it at about 175 yards. He wasn't a very accomplished shooter either, but the rifle made it easy to hit what you aimed at. I think you'll enjoy yours.

We no longer freeze corn out of the garden. It's in jars in the pantry. We dehydrate salsa. You can make a batch of something for a meal, dehydrate it, and chow down to a tasty meal when you need it. Just add water and you are good to go!
