That looks like a metric ton of fun. The longest range I've competed at with iron sights is 547 meters....with a 1902 Carl Gustav Swedish Mauser.

But only 8 shooters? That's too bad....

I spent about an hour taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning and oiling. Very little rust. Just dry as a bone. Nothing a good soak in Hopps #9 didn't cure. I rubbed in a good amount of Howards Restor-a-Finish to the furniture to get out the handling marks and minor scratches. The bluing is in...

Looks like they're relatively rare. They use standard AR trigger components and mags. I'd keep it and shoot the heck out of it.

I hate to say it, but the last Remington firearm purchased by anyone in our family was my Dad's Model 700 bought new back in the 60's.

The latest 700's have been somewhat disappointing. They just don't feel as solid and sturdy as Pop's 30-06.

Congratulations on picking up a fine rifle. My M1A is one of the shooting-est rifles I own. It won't beat you up as much as you may think, but it will definitely get your attention and keep it.
