The idea I have, but have never acted on, is to use the Weaver mount, on the side, and make a bracket that will allow a standard weaver base to mount to it, and holes drilled and tapped into the front of the receiver, and the front sight dovetail. This would all be removable, except the holes in th...

Very cool and fascinating info. If I had lots of thousands to invest (I wish) I'd consider the 'precious' metals, but there's less regulation, taxes, and likelihood of seizure if you simply invest in 'ordinary' metals - copper, lead, aluminum, etc. come to mind (seriously, not just for ammo). Interesting story. Sad in a way for the community, but on the other hand, if it HAD become a touristy place and trendy place for famous people to move, it wouldn't have much character now. Stuff you make yourself is usually
a) better suited for the task, because it's the way YOU wanted it made, and
b) better made, because you likely didn't skimp on materials or use mass-production techniques.
The tradeoff is "it looks like someone made it himself" - well, Duhhh...!

At least with breech cleaning, there is usually not as much angle you can get to with the rod to scrape the crown. My son's Henry tends to have the first-inserted round stick in the magazine (it is actually in the receiver at that point), so if you take the empty gun, load 12 in the tube, and never shoot or work the lever, you will dump out only 11 rounds, and one will be in the gun.
