Jim, I often wondered how Elmer learned all he did when He lived in remote places for years. I bought the Book "Letters from Keith" and that explained it. A different time for sure. When I started reloading the family thought I was nuts and would blow myself up. My Dad taught me well. I s...

Re: Range Time With The Old H&R .38 S&W

What a transformation! :) Well done! Do you know when the gun was originally made? I doubt you'd shoot it enough that the smokeless loads would be a problem, but a lot of those pocket top-breaks were never rated for smokeless powder, as I am sure you know. Happy Shooting! Range Time With The Old H&R .38 S&W

I took the H&R to the Range today. Considering what it looked like when I started on it, the gun is now beautiful in that it actually shoves projectiles downrange in the general direction you want them to go! BEFORE 1.jpg TODAY IMG_5057.JPG I shot the round ball load .. the 96 gr. Bear Creek bul...

I made some today and did not trim the paper .. I left it long enough that I loaded 44 gr. of 3Fg and the ball. I like the 36 gr. load as it is accurate but I want to try a bit more powder. With 36 gr. there is still quite a bit of room in that big ole cylinder.
