Re: OT, but very important - new CPR method

I have been teaching CPR for years for the American Red Cross. I think it is important to note that American Red Cross still recommends the 30 compressions and two breaths for professional rescuer CPR. The purpose of CPR is to circulate oxygen rich blood to the brain. Best way to do that when a pers...

Re: OT: lets see them scatter guns

I have one I'll share. I had a genuine 1897 12 ga, but it was quite rough. It was given to me, so my investment was nil. I decided I wanted a trench gun. My gun, my choice. So, this is what one of my Winchester 1897's became. However, my local gunsmithing professional helped me to make this same sho...

Re: OT: Yeah I know - pants belts

You might want to try a belt buckle from Don Applegate. I purchased one in 2001 through Sportsman's Guide, and then I purchased one just recently at a booth he had at a local gun show. The one I purchased nine years ago has seen a lot of use, and is quite rugged. It has been a favorite for a long ti...

Re: OT - A question from Y2K got me thinking

I think the decline in the wearing of hats was driven by a complex set of issues. Certainly JFK had an impact. But, cost did as well. A well dressed man often had a hat that was coordinated with his suit. (Coordinated, not matching.) That could get expensive. And, I believe hair styles also had an i...

.351 Winchester SL (Self Loading) for the Winchester Model 1907. I don't hunt with it (not yet anyway) but I enjoy shooting it. Cartridges can be made, and I do so, but it would be nice to be able to go buy some fresh ammunition.

+1 on the Gorilla Glue. I have repaired two stocks using the new thinner water white Gorilla Glue. Trick is to dampen both surfaces first. Be ready to clamp, and be ready to catch what oozes out. And, refinishing will probably be in order to make it look its best. One of the stocks I repaired this w...

I use saddle soap to clean, but once cleaned I have had real good luck with a product called Bick 4. It is a white cream/lotion, and it seems to give the leather back a lot of its natural suppleness. Gives it a nice natual leather smell too, while giving it just a bit of moisture repellancy.

Although not the one pictured in the SHOT show pics, I have a revolving cylinder carbine. OT - Smokeless Powder Storage

I am quite new to reloading, and while I don't have an abundance of different powder varieties in the basement (yet), I am starting to wonder how others store their powder. I have seen powder storage chests for sales through Cabelas, but before making that $300 leap was wondering what others do to s...

Re: Help me pick a lever .30-06

I have a Winchester '95 Take Down in .30-06. I like it a lot, it shoots well, and the 95 design leaves all the .30-06 ammunition choices possible. Its an original, but with enough nicks and scratches to be a guiltless shooter. I purchased it as I wanted a lever gun that could use pointed bullets, an...

My brother-in-law hunts with one of these in the old model. He really likes it for hunting deer when shots are expected under 100 yards. He has had it for years, and while he now lives in an area where he must use shotguns, as of last month he would not part with the Ruger. I asked.

Here's my two cents. I do not profess to be an expert. I personally own a Honda 13 hp 6500 watt generator for power outages, which we get often enough. We live well outside any city limits, so when the power goes out we rarely get priority for power restoration from the utility. The Honda generator ...

7mm-08 is a great caliber. I shoot that caliber in a Ruger Model 77 with a Redfield 3X - 9X variable scope. I got my first and probably my best deer with that gun/cartridge with a shot at about 150 yards. While I have since gone to a .30-06 for other reasons, the 7mm-08 is still the rifle I consider...

Re: What are the "classic" levergun cartridges/calibers?

This may seem a bit simple, but so am I. To me, any caliber that was at one time described as 'XX WCF' qualifies as a classic levergun cartridge. Like 38 WCF, or 32 WCF.
