Re: Saturday success !
Nice job and nice buck! I saw a very similar half rack buck a few weeks ago, but I had already killed an 8pt during muzzle loader season and we are only allowed two bucks west of the blue ridge and my policy is that my second buck has to be bigger than my first one, so I gave him a pass. If he comes...

With me behind the trigger anyways. This was about a week and a half ago during our super short two week firearms deer season. Distance was about 60 yards, maybe a little more. Ammo was winchester factory 150gr. powerpoint. At the shot, the doe instantly crumbled and was lights out dead, not a singl...

Yes, my other 99 in 300sav has a Weaver K2.5 with the post and crosshair reticle. Its not super clear but still works great. I really like that reticle type. I'm surprised it's not more common. I've considered having it rebuilt just to clear it up. This 250-3000 has a Weaver K3 with fine crosshairs,...

Hey Flint....yep....Costco...$59.95.....love em ....they don't really heat the room, just what you point it at.....I think they call that radiant heat..... You paid extra because of the caliber......that's OK, a 99 in 250-3000 will sell the next day at your price. I've got one in 38-55 and the abov...

Leave it alone...it looks fine to me.....if you notice the rear mount in on an angle and is made that way to conform to the curve of the tang.....by moving it up it will change the angle and the scope ring will dig into the scope...... I really don't see a problem at all...your thinking too much......

Re: 32 Win Spcl to 30-30 Conversion?
I was just pointing out the factory published max load differences. I do not always go to max load on handloads. It is not necessary to punish the gun and yourself. I do hunt with the most accurate loads I find, and that may or may not be max loads. Just my opinion, but I prefer best accuracy to to...

ok, finally got 5 minutes to look at it today. The stiffness was due to being BONE DRY. I lubed it up good with some ballistol and now it cycles like glass :) with resistance only at the very end of the cycle. So that's one thing. The remaining issue is that of the darn rear scope mount. Here are so...

Yikes! that is back there where the mount is on the sloped part of the receiver. Seems like such a dumb location it definitely reduces the value of the rifle. oh man, its your rifle now, so definitely do what you please, but here are two reasons NOT to rebarrel it. 1. it was your dad's rifle. My shoulder is very soft. It's a mess in there. Torn labrum, impingement, rotator damage. I was hoping to avoid surgery, but I keep reinjuring it. I love the 30-30. I think its pretty much perfect for the deer hunting I do. I've never shot a deer over 90 yards and the deer I've shot have all either dropped on the spot or within 50 yards. Nice shot!
I use 90gr. of blackhorn behind a 300gr .452 XTP mag in a black harvester crush rib sabot, and is super accurate and lays some serious smack down on deer. I agree, the only thing you give up is a quick second shot, but if you do your part you will never need it.

if I was in a survival situation - like that my survival depended on having only one gun, it would definitely be a 22magnum - which I view to be an order of magnitude more effective and versitile than the 22lr, yet the ammo doesn't take up much more room or add much more weight.
