Re: Saturday success !

Nice job and nice buck! I saw a very similar half rack buck a few weeks ago, but I had already killed an 8pt during muzzle loader season and we are only allowed two bucks west of the blue ridge and my policy is that my second buck has to be bigger than my first one, so I gave him a pass. If he comes...

First blood with 300 savage

With me behind the trigger anyways. This was about a week and a half ago during our super short two week firearms deer season. Distance was about 60 yards, maybe a little more. Ammo was winchester factory 150gr. powerpoint. At the shot, the doe instantly crumbled and was lights out dead, not a singl...

Yes, my other 99 in 300sav has a Weaver K2.5 with the post and crosshair reticle. Its not super clear but still works great. I really like that reticle type. I'm surprised it's not more common. I've considered having it rebuilt just to clear it up. This 250-3000 has a Weaver K3 with fine crosshairs,...

Leave it alone...it looks fine to me.....if you notice the rear mount in on an angle and is made that way to conform to the curve of the tang.....by moving it up it will change the angle and the scope ring will dig into the scope...... I was just pointing out the factory published max load differences. I do not always go to max load on handloads. It is not necessary to punish the gun and yourself. I do hunt with the most accurate loads I find, and that may or may not be max loads. Just my opinion, but I prefer best accuracy to to...

ok, finally got 5 minutes to look at it today. The stiffness was due to being BONE DRY. Yikes! that is back there where the mount is on the sloped part of the receiver. Seems like such a dumb location it definitely reduces the value of the rifle. I use 90gr. of blackhorn behind a 300gr .452 XTP mag in a black harvester crush rib sabot, and is super accurate and lays some serious smack down on deer. I agree, the only thing you give up is a quick second shot, but if you do your part you will never need it.
