Re: Mod 64 day
I've only had the mdl 64A, which as far as I know was only available in .30-30. The 1st one I won as part of a ship's raffle in late 1972. It's only the 2nd of two $5 raffles I entered in while in the Navy. After winning that I was forbidden from buying my tickets in the Officer's Wardroom on payday...

I'm guessing your target camera is a good addition to your shooting bag! I can't recommend them highly enough. It has a feature that allows it to recognize a new hole in the target, even one overlapping another. It simply compares the current target to the previous image stored and, as it flashes b...

Afternoon at the Range
Spent another afternoon at the rifle club. Took 3 rifles, 2 Winchester 94s and the 1885 Hi-Wall. (I'd meant to take one of my 16" Trapper 94s, but... apparently, since it wasn't set out, I hadn't planned all that thoroughly)! I shot the Hi-Wall first to see if the new load changed my grouping o...

Re: From the Mach One to the Pinto…
My first car was a heavily used Mustang Mach 1 that I bought for $600. :D That engine was incredible. Of course it sucked gas like there was no tomorrow, and I was trying to fill it during the oil embargo of the '70's making barely $2/hr. I swear the gas gauge fell if I even looked at the gas pedal...

I have one rifle that chews up brass... It's my custom mdl 94 in .30-30 with a Numrich barrel. The chamber is quite simply, rough! I get about 3 loadings on brass used in it and the necks start showing cracks. Not the mouth, case body or shoulder, just the neck. I've not done a chamber cast, so I do...

CHANGE THE OIL!! The only thing that might be an issue is the generator portion, lots of dissimilar metals( copper, aluminum, bearings) that sometimes corrosion can seize the genset. OK .. thanks. I will dig out the chronograph and see. The 160 gr. Speer jacketed SWC with 7.5 gr. of Unique was about 1150 fps and the jacketed bullet produced a lot more friction than the cast bullet. Seating depth also affects things. That Speer JSWC is in the database, and at 7.5 grains is a muc...

A light sanding and fresh Tru-Oil would do that furniture wonders. If'n I was a Marlin guy, I'd have bitten on that one also. For some reason, I thought the 36 introduced the round bolt to Marlin.

8 grains of Unique is pretty sporty, any idea how fast that's running? No, I've never checked. I would guess around 1200 fps. But that's just a guess. Jim, you might wanna check... Vall, if you're like me, you'll love that 10-10 scale. I had their mid-range scale, I believe it was a 5-10-5(?), anyway it started giving erratic results and contacted RCBS about it. They said to send it back & they'd try rebuilding it. A couple weeks after sending it in, I received a new 10-10...

Since I had my trimmer mounted to the bench, (have to take my powder stand down to do that), I decided that since I had less than 50 rounds of .30-30 in cast, I'd make up some. At least a box of 50... so I trimmed 50 cases (Winchester) down to 2.028" after sizing and deburred inside & outsi...

east of Dallas we got a few sprinkles while I was at the range, not even enough to dampen the targets. Roads were wet on the way back, but our dirt road showed nary a drop and the little farm is dry as a bone. Need a little if I'm to mow at least once more before the grass goes dormant.
