The Burgess doesn't need a dust cover as the massive bolt completely covers the opening in the reciever. The sliding loading gate works well as the nose of the round pushes the gate open. One "fault" of the original Burgess was that it did not have a Winchester-type lever safety to stop it...

Perry, We have the same problem here in the states. Good gunsmiths and honest politicians are all but extinct. That broken lug looks like a case of metal fatigue or maybe it was too brittle and just fractured. Your fix looks good to me. Not sure I would have had the nerve to solder on a breach bolt...

Perry, What powder charge and bullet weight were you using? All that soot tells me the pressure wasn't up high enough to expand the cases. Joe 35grains FFg under a 250grain RNFP Big Lube bullet.
