I have used .357 BP loads for years. Load as Griff says. I use nickel cases and Swiss powder as I find that the cases seem to stay cleaner, also I can see at a glance which rounds are BP.

I used to make the boilers from a brass ring cut from 2inch tube, with a sheet brass bottom and a copper foil top. The load was 80 grains of Swiss FG in a Magtech brass 12g shell. The range is the old gunnery zero range on an abandoned WW2 bomber base. A sunny day after a night of heavy rain - no wind.

I just dug my Spencers out of the safe to check the serial numbers. One of them is a model 1867 with a serial number 1022XX. It's a 56-50, 5 groove rifling with a Lane extractor.

The 1887 is simple to work on. If yours was made in 1895 it will have twin extractors - earlier versions had only one. I can send you an exploded diagram, parts list and disassembly instructions if you want.
