I agree with the last two post....AND I HAD JES DO THE REBORE(thats the guy in the link)ON MY 1894. He is a super good guy to deal with and at least my rifle is amazingly accurate. I could not recommend anyone higher!

usually the guys with the pronounced arch haul steel coils which may weigh 50.000 pounds each, and those trailers are aluminum decked. When you drop that coil on your aluminum trailer it had better have a arch or it will have a bow after.

I use 9.0 grains of 2400 with a 100 grain xtp in my original 1892 winchester. I have a 1889 in 44-40 and I bet they are about the same strength. As always work up the load and STOP AT THE FIRST SIGNS OF EXCESS PRESSURE. Good luck Tom

I just pull the bullet and powder then fire the primed case in the rifle, and usually the people at the range look at me dumb...but it gets the job done. I am taking a 1886 in 33wcf as my primary gun on an elk hunt this November in Colorado.

I had JES rebore a 94 for me from 30=30 to 38-55 and I couldn't be happier, and she is a shooter!!!!
At the time I couldn't afford a "real" 38-55 but this is almost as cool.

I shoot a marlin in 44 mag and you are on the right trail. I use 240 cast bullet and a medium to slightly stiff load of H110 and can hit a steel groundhog cutout 9 out of 10 with the peep sight and a fiber optic front sight at 100 yards...plenty for deer. I am looking to get a chart of the drop on one of my loads(and yes I will shoot it to fine tune but wanted a guesstimate) I am using 165 grain nosler partitions with 45 grains of varget in a R-P cases for my 308with a 20 inch barrel. Looking for drop at 200 300 400 if anyone can help. Thanks

6PT, did you dollar bill the tang area on that rifle. The savages have a tendency to need that extra room at the rear. You probably already know this but thoughtId through it out there. I had a hard time with the firesteels not sparking with the scraper they supplied...now a little piece of 80 grit oxide paper and the firesteel ......spark shower city. Just a little tid bit if it doesnt work for you like it didn't for me.

I was out at my buddies private range the other month and we were shooting high velocity ammo out of my bolt action with the can on it and it was funny as could be click (firing pin) .....boom(bullet breaking the sound barrier).......ding(impact on gong). It may not translate unless you have done it...
