Re: Best target design for shooting groups?

The target that 66gto shows is quite good. The only problem I had with them was trying to line up four points on the cross hairs and spending too much time doing so, thus messing up my breathing pattern. Now I just put a row of staples on plain paper and aim at them. Accuracy was a fair bit better, ...

Re: 30/30 Handload Problem

Michaux, How far are the bullets moving back into the cartridge? Bullets can move in the case neck, but should not move past the cannelure groove on the bullet. The expander ball diameter does not matter, providing that when you seat the bullet into the neck it does not fall into the cartridge. Usin...

I use 34.5 grains of IMR4198 under a plain based 405grn bullet in my 1886 miroku/chester. Its one of the most accurate loads I have, and comfortable in the recoil dept. Maybe 1500fps..I don't know.

765x53, It would require drilling out, although it seems that may not be the problem. If there is enough thread left, but the screw is going in too far, a washer under the head will do, or bed it with JB Weld or MarineTex. JB is cheaper, and will actually hold a screw thread. Give the screw a few co...

An 18'' or 20'' barrel may not be enough to get you the velocity for 1000yds to stay supersonic. 308's have been used for many years to 1000yds, but there are better choices these days especially when handloading. Original 1886's were winchesters. 1886's made in 1986 were classified as brownings, made by miroku, and had no safety on the tang. 1886's from around year 2000 had safety and were calassified as winchesters made in japan by miroku. Go figure.

Ethanol should never have been put into gas. Aside from being a huge ripoff, the damage done to engines must run into the billons per year.

I should add,
Your case necks will be shorter, and need trimming back to square them up.
If you are getting splits, anneal the brass and use the cream of wheat method....trying to seat a bullet in a case with a soft shoulder may cause the shoulder to deform and collapse.
