33 WCF "stuff"
Ok, I have been experimenting around with the 33 WCF round for about 10 years now and have accumulated a lot of info as I dug into shooting and reloading this round. There have been several threads and questions on this forum about reloading the cartridge I hope no one minds if I dig into my noteboo...

Yep...I love the round and have experimented a lot with it. Its my favorite smokeless rifle round. Testing 5 or 6 different case headstamps, I find this cartridge is very sensitive to which case is used, so max loads in mine were developed using one make/style case, then those cases were set aside, ...

My only concern is photo #2. The buttplate looks too proud to the wood....like the wood may be sanded there. Too hard to tell from that one photo though. The photo that shows the wood/tang fit certainly looks nice, and the finish itself appears like a mid 50s factory finish.

Pitchy, What material did you use for the window? The original material was a pressed mylar, I think. One of mine has a torn window, I would not mind replacing it and the other is very cloudy. We always called it isinglass on the old Moore Stoves, which is a type of mica (or IS mica) Isinglass is n...

Ok, one other thing I left out in case anyone is going to try to get a date of manufacture of their particular Winchester box: Winchester went from a two piece box, like the one illustrated, to a one piece box (with the slide out cardboard tray), in the late 1920s. In the case of 38-40 it was 1927/2...

JimT, if I may sir, can I date your.......cartridge box? First thing I noticed was the word ''center fire". Winchester used "central fire" on cartridge boxes until around the mid 1890s, so a clue that your box is after that time frame. It also does not specify Black Powder or Sm...

Wow! First welcome to the forum. I have rebuilt, from a bare frame, about 4 1873 Winchesters (and 2 1886, 2 1876 Winchesters, and 4 or 5 1890 pump 22 winchesters). For about the last 10 years I've been monkeying around with an 1886 Winchester in 33 WCF that I rebuilt. I miss the 22 Longs! In my Remington 512X the CCI Longs were deadly accurate for a 22: 5 shots under 3/4" at 50 yards average group size. Amazingly, the Remington branded 22 Longs made the rifle look like a shotgun! Groups averaged close to 5 inches. Never could figure out why. Moot point now. ...
