14 1/2 in lop seems pretty long.

I’ve killed a pretty good amount of deer with cast bullet in various cartridges all were bullets I cast myself . Most were with the 444 and a fair amount with the 45-70 but still a bunch with various lever action cartridges . Anyway without a doubt as has already been said FP’s seemed to hammer them...

In my bedroom I have a circa 1890 Parker Grade 1 top lever 10 gauge hammer gun with the 26” barrels on loaded with a slug in the right and buck in the left . Not ideal but I have so I’ll use it :lol: FWIW this gun is a factory original two barrel set 26” and 30” .

Look it ain’t no great secret about all I shoot shotgun wise are SxS both hammer and hammerless. However for what you want I’d be thinking Belgian made Browning A-5 and cut it down to suit my needs . I had a veritable pile of Red Dot a little while ago . Sold one person an older 12 pound keg and another friend an 8 pounder . But I’ve still got over twenty pounds of Unique and I think 12-14 pounds of Green Dot . I had a bunch of Blue Dot and liquidated all of it except one four pounder .

All the ducks I’ve killed have been done in with 2 3/4” shells in 20’s and a 16 shot charges never higher than an ounce in either . All double barrels . All the geese I’ve killed have been done in by 2 7/8” 10 gauge with 1 1/4 ounces of Bismuth .

The actual data I use for pretty much all of my 8 gauge loads . As I said before my buck/ball/slug loads are adapted from the 1 3/4 ounce load data .
