As of this morning, 90,000 acres burned, 6,450 structures lost, and nine confirmed dead. Late yesterday, my friend was told his home was still standing. Hope it survived the night.
For those with connections to Paradise, local news is reporting small pockets of the town appeared to have been spared.

Re: Another prayer request, for another wildfire
My buddy just got a message from Cal Fire that they are staged in HIS YARD trying to stop the advance, and that only about 20 of the 400 homes in his canyon are still standing. Wow, that's tough. God bless emergency responders wherever they are.

Another prayer request, for another wildfire
We know our friend Shasta lost his home in the Redding fire. Now a lifelong friend, a fine father, a man of faith and the owner of his grandpa's 1886 in .33 Winchester could use prayers as the Camp Fire burns hot and erratically toward Chico, California, this afternoon. Started at 100 acres this mor...

Here in New Mexico, the buzzers come with the territory. I tend to think of them as the hantavirus control program that the state and taxpayers can't afford. Mostly they just want a mouse dinner and a chance to curl up under a creosote bush for a nap.

I'm not a BSA fan, having sold them at Sportsman's Warehouse once upon a time. Blaine, google Gateway to Airguns and sign in. The RWS 48 you chose is very powerful and know as a scope eater, but I can't say what it would do to a reflex sight. If you do get one, get the smallest dot you can -- like a...

Mick, there's more. I had some left over .56-50 handloads after I sold the Spencer and thought, "hmmm, these seem to chamber OK in my 12mm Swedish rolling block." I'll be darned if they weren't incredibly accurate out of the Swede. Talking these Swedes: https://www.allans-armory.com/aaresu...

Lenn, I have had a couple of those 10.5- inch Ruger .44s and found them easy to carry if I attached a sling to the barrel and to a stud in the butt. Still the most comfortable .44 Magnum handgun I have ever shot, thanks to that long barrel.

Mick, don't overlook the Armi Sport Spencer replica in .56-50. I had one and it was a lot of fun to shoot. I used a modified Lee 515-450 mould to drop a bullet closer to 350 grains, and Starline makes excellent 56-50 brass. Use off-the-shelf .50-70 dies to load. A friend in Montana has taken a coupl...

Just thinking about this interesting and often overlooked 1911 chambering -- one that I have never shot or otherwise messed with.
