That's a beauty to my eyes Bill! Not sure I'd do much to it, as upgrading the wood much will only make wear on metal parts stand out more. Right now it all is equal, and I'd want to either keep it this way, or do a total restoration. But I'd lean to doing very little to this! Maybe a good cleaning o...

Re: barrell length and velocity

Thanks all, MarlinMan my main reason for the 24" is the sighting radius, I'e tried a tang sight and a receiver peep sight and I find target acquisition slower for Boar on the run, some say a longer barrel slows you down but on a light levergun I have found this isn't so. I agree with COSteve r...

Re: The American Buffalo

I'm still not too concerned since buffalo only drop one calf, or on rare occasion two per year. Whereas most rodents drop large litters, multiple times a year. I doubt even a huge number of hunters like there were in the buffalo days would put much of a dent towards extinction of rodents.

Personally I don't think the velocity gained by a longer barrel is as beneficial as the sighting radius gained by the extra length! Having an extra 4"-8" of extra barrel length with iron sights is a huge factor in more accurate shooting.
