He is assigned to East Precinct where I live, and that's how I found out what wasn't going on in my neighborhood. Unless you just enjoy spending money, I'd give the Micro-Groove barrel a good chance. They are great barrels, IF you find out what it likes for bullet size. All beautiful, but that 1893 with #5-4 engraving, and G checkering is really the icing on top of them all!
A good friend of mine recently sold a very similar 1893 in just slightly higher condition, and I'll be watching to see where this one goes when the dust settles.

Looks like a very basic reworked Enfield using a lot of the original stock. I think you're right about it being tailored towards the average guy, vs. the usual Westley Richards high end builds. I've seen these forging lines on a lot of old lever action repeating rifles, and always on blued receivers with a little or a lot of wear. Can't say as I've ever seen them on color cased receivers, and I think it's because the bluing salts can get into microscopic pores and highlight the forging lin...

Along with my single shot rifles, I have an addiction to old scopes also. Nice old scopes or very rare old scopes just are amazing to me. Normally a Lyman is a great scope but not all that rare. But this one does it for me just because it's so old, and so nice with it's box.
