It’s been a fun project. A challenge when you don’t have any plan to work off of. I will get it shooting and hang it on the wall as a decoration. What next ??? I am thinking of building a small gas engine from scratch, maybe a hit and miss stationary model. The one I like best The plans are no longe...

Crossbow project getting close
Hi guys , this project has been in the works since last December. I bought the bow (prod) and bow irons. I made the rest myself Other than the wood screws. The red cord on the bow is just to test the fit and not part of the crossbow. There should be finished pictures coming soon. BD769D94-27A1-407F-...

Re: Winchester 73 and 92: what were they made for?
Putting food on the table was the main reason to buy a gun for most folks. Cost of ammo was also high on the list. Also there were few people who would claim your game if it did not drop in its tracks so high power was not needed. I remember a film of a man in Canada hunting Moose with a 32-20. He s...

One ford tractor dealership I worked in used a hay track as an overhead hoist track. I lifted some very heavy loads with that hoist.
It would handle a four cylinder Ford 7000 Diesel engine without problem. Eventually we broke a joist in the ceiling from lifting to much with it.

To teach them to make a knife. We finished them this morning. They were made from an old commercial circular saw blade.

Re: They do have levers.
I understand that the early steel bowed crossbows had very short draw length due to the poor quality steels and heat treating. Many bows failed due to this and a broken bow could possibly even kill the shooter so they often wrapped the bow with cord or leather to restrain the broken pieces. The bow ...

I love the .410 . If the cost of ammo was less I believe it would be much more popular. When I was a kid , my cousin hunted with a .410 . He shot 3” shells in a 2 3/4” chamber. He pounded them in with the palm of his hand and had to fire it before he could ge the shell back out. If he didn’t shoot i...

I mostly use 440C stainless these days. I send them out for commercial heat treating due to the lack of proper deat treat furnace in my shop. There are many exotic steels available today but 440 has been on top for over 50 years and will take a very nice finish and heat treat to 58-60 RH.

Barrel bending is a pretty common practice among trap shooters. So far I have never had the need to bend one.
I once got a .22 barrel from Numrich that had a pretty obvious warp to it and I straightened it and ended up with a great shooting rifle.
