Re: stock question
Most every stock I'v ever seen split on a levergun split because the tang was recieving the recoil forces. Many factory guns have a space between the reciever flare & shoulder of the buttstock where recoil forces should be transfered from steel to wood. Since the tangs are tapered if theres spac...

Heck I do about anything you can do with guns.
I hunt, though mostly bowhunting these days, I shoot, I collect or accumulate, I reload & I restore them sometimes.

Thanks Gents. If the wood wasnt so oversanded I'd let it be. I like old wood but not when its been butchered. I'll stain the new pieces & they'll look right. If it shoots I wont line it, but its pretty bad, even the chamber is pitted. I dont think I'm going beyond making it into a shooter though...

It's a modern manufactured tool. It's not vintage, collectable, or rare. 44s will do the same thing. The ones that dont benefit much at all from a longer barrel are calibers like 9mm, 45 etc because they dont have room for larger charges of slower powders. The 158 Federal AE comes from my 20" Rossi @1700fps and though I never chronied it its likely about 12oo fps fr...

Here's the problem as I see it. IF a '73 is properly fitted up, with the links over-centering upon closing the lever, it is a pretty strong action. The problem is, far too many '73s leave the factory with links a hair too short to allow them to fully over-center upon lock-up, and may even have wide...

I think theres a reason God put rims on revolver & lever action cartridges. As us 35 Remington fans know, there's no God-mandated requirement for a rim on a lever cartridge. And the rim on the straight-walled cartridges is more for the nice headspacing than for a feeding requirement. Now the tw...

Re: Pistol Caliber Lever Action Carbine?
Why does it not have a problem with the 35 Rem.? Because its bottlenecked & tapered. The lifter needs to be able to come up enough to block the next round in the tube while letting the body of the current one slip in. Rifle calibers have more of a fudge factor, thats why we usually hear about t...

Lack of a rim causes issues in most actions more than length. In a Marlin pistol caliber the dia difference between the rim & case body is what keeps it from double feeding, in any properly functioning Marlin empty cases should feed onto the carrier fine, its tricky getting empty straight walled...

The terminal velocity of a baseball is about 95 miles an hour. That’s about the same speed a ball travels when thrown by a good fastball pitcher. A bullet fired straight up will lose velocity and eventually stop. Then gravity will cause the bullet to accelerate downward against air resistance. When...
