Re: The old Lyman 310

I have an old vintage all-steel one for the .348 WCF. Works fine, but the "claw" that snaps over the rim to pull the case back out of the die makes a pretty good scratch about 1/4" long near the rim of the case. The claw is sharp, but I don't want to radius its edge because I'm concer...

Re: Fed a lie on the target they sent me

just a quick thought. A big difference like that can happen if one shooter grips the forearm while sighting & the other one doesn't. Without the grip on the forearm, recoil is free to raise the barrel & the gun shoots much higher. A friend & I were shooting a Win. M71 (.348 cal) a couple...

More signs of ammo/components loosening up.

Ran up to Riley's in Hooksett NH today. Been out of everything for a long time, but today looked quite a bit different. Had Varget (limit: one of any one type of powder, 2 pounds total limit), had .30-30 brass, had .357 158gr jacketed bullets (2 box limit), had CCI Blazer Brass (reloadable) 9mm 115g...

Re: Win 65 aperture sight thread?

I'd be tempted to put some oil on the aperture threads and spin a .22 or .24 bronze gun cleaning brush in there for a bit to clean them up. You can buy extra apertures in a variety of sizes from Brownell's:

Re: Win 65 aperture sight thread?

The Model 65 took a Winchester #98C bolt peep. Assuming that it takes the same aperture as the #98A that they put in the bolt of a Model 71, it'd be a 7/32 x 40 thread.

I was in my local small shop today, he hadn't had .223s for quite awhile. He had what I'd guess was 30 or 40 cases of 1000 rds (50 boxes) of PMCs for $599, or $12.99 per single box. Also had Remington/UMC at $12.99 a box. CCI Mini-Mag .22s at $15.99 per box of 100. Nobody grabbing any of it that I s...

I had about the same goals, and went with a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. Trigger was lousy, I put a Geissele into it & it's just a pleasure to shoot. Less than 2" at 100yds is no problem, mine will do a fair amount better. They come with a match-grade Thompsin heavy-ish barrel. Magazin...

There is one of these listed as NIB with all the paperwork on Gunbroker. A couple bids, it's currently at $1700. Wow. And this with what's described as "a minor safe ding near the toe of the stock" (has a picture of it) that seems not-so-minor to me on a "NIB" gun. You've got you...

I noticed on Gunbroker that there's new .348 ammo available from Winchester. It figured that they had to do a run, now that they're selling the Miroku Model 71 copy. The new ammo is 200gr "Power Point", so it looks like the Silvertip is well and truly dead. I thought they might go with the...

Winchester's own records (see link in my post above) show no model 94s for the years 1943-1947 inclusive. This seems consistent with your quote from the 1943 Shooter's Bible. Their records do show, however, about 30,000 during 1942. Seems to me that qualifies as "wartime". Whether those 30...

If Winchester made NO sporting guns during 1943, why do we find among their factory records tallies of serial numbers assigned during that year for some few sporting models?
