Re: Need help...Looking for info on Marlin 94 in 45LC
The .45s are all "ballard" aka conventional, and they are ALL 1 in 38 twist. The Marlin CATALOG was wrong for many years (I thought mine were 1 in 20 until I did the "tightly patched cleaning rod test). Then I personally contacted the superintendent at Remington's Ilion plant to ask t...

2.040 is nominal OAL for .30-30. I still think ya got "cah cah" in the neck end of the chamber or at the shoulder. If I was a smith and had a .30-30 reamer handy, I'd give it a twist BY HAND in the chamber and probably come out with something. As mentioned above, black up a longISH case re...

A typical commercial slug is like a thimble, hollow and easily deformed. A round ball ends up with LOTS of bearing surface and is NOT hollow. The potential of busting up yer shotgun is real enough with heavy ball or solid slug loads (hence the deeply ribbed sabot slugs). In the old days, some shotgu...

Hammerli did in fact make the Virginan Dragoon. I had one in .45 Colt. It was a beast of a gun, bigger than a Blackhawk, with buttery smooth lock work. The down side is it had .455 throats and a .451 bore. It would group with 260 grain Speer (old style) JHPs on top of OH MY GOD loads of 2400 that tu...

Not for nothing, but the ACP-length Cowboy .45 Special used in a toggle link is also an odd ball, but in CAS circles draws lots of interest. I'd stopper the muzzle, fill the bore with Hoppes or kerosene, and let er soak a while, then pull a bore snake through it. It might be just fine with standard velocity loads or CB caps.

Compared to a relatively simple semi auto, a levergun is expensive to make. Much as I like em, I realize the limits of the market for a well made lever. Crud is likely making it tough to cock. Stevens arms and tool company, no, they were not serialized, and yes, since they span the 1899 break by quite a few years on either side (it is the model of 1894, produced until 1913 or so) you can't get one considered an antique by federal law.

Here's the problem as I see it. IF a '73 is properly fitted up, with the links over-centering upon closing the lever, it is a pretty strong action. The problem is, far too many '73s leave the factory with links a hair too short to allow them to fully over-center upon lock-up, and may even have wide...

One reason the 8MM gets a bad rap here in the US (aside from war history) is because the US load specs are dialed way back out of fear the loads will end up in the older, tighter barreled guns. Compare S&B loads to US makers. The European stuff is much stouter.
