Thanks. I've got some work to do on an old receiver and was planning on having that testing done so that I make sure my repairs were done correctly. Now I'm convinced.

Joe & Mike, I had talked with Colt1849 and IIRC he said he stays away from the post '64 sintered steel receivers. Val, have you done this with a Post '64? I have a guy that's willing to TIG the small repair needed, (weld up a screw hole that has become enlongated so I can redrill and tap.) But, ...

Steel Type

Does anyone know what type of rod I would use to weld a flaw in a post '64 Winchester 94 Receiver? Or where about's to go to get an answer?

Hanz, Keep soaking it, use some heat and work with the screws. Get it apart. Clean and derust everything. If the chamber and bore and action isn't in bad shape it will work. At least ... that's what I'd do. Me too. I've got one as bad I'm going to rebuild: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d197/sas...

I've been doing some thinking along those same lines. Here's my dream rifle: Winchester 94, top eject, take down with 6 barrels. It needs to be in a rifle configuration, curved steel buttplate, nicely figured wood. I want the buttplate, receiver, lower tang, lever and forend cap color case hardened....

Was kinda neat. I suspect that he'd been planning that little April Fool's joke for a while. I mean, you don't just up and create a website in a day... or is it really that simple and folks have been getting ripped off for lots of money by it seeming more complicated that it is?

The Hodgdon Powder website only lists a 405 and 485 gr bullets, so it's not much help. But, would be a starting point. They list loads for both 3031 and 4064, but nothing for 748 in this cartridge.

Whereas I agree with you about the original Winchester M71, I just don't see the Browning copies as having that same... inviolate nature. I have a 1886 Browning rifle, that is just as it was received from the factory, with the only changes being it's no longer "unfired". However, there isn...

Ah, I see the difference. They used a professional photographer so the shooter and everything except the receiver of the rifle is blurry. Your photo has great focus and is very clear. Obviously an amateurish attempt to replicate the ad.  Besides, it looks better.

Gosh, and I thought mine was in rough shape. That's not as bad as some I've seen. I haven't used them, but I'm planning on having http://www.classicgunsinc.com do the metal work on the projects I'm working on. They were recommended to me by another gunsmith who sends them his long guns refinishing.

Leverguns Auction

Well, Little John's Levergun auction is history. My BIL bought two 94 Winchester SRCs. Paid ~$600 for one with almost no finish, but very nice condition otherwise (yet missing the ring), the other was about 60% finish and good condition and he paid $1,000. He said that your average SRC and Rifle wer...
