Re: Bullet comments about the old ##-## cartridges

Hard bullets are often highly over rated and cause more problems when used in guns that don't need them. The hard crayon type lubes used by commercial casters is another problem in its self. I cast all of my own bullets for many different calibers (maybe 15 or so) and make them as fat and soft as ne...

Re: da blamed marlin 30-30 how much to replace barrel

This may sound stupid but does it have any rifling in it. A friend of mine had one that was a factory smooth bore. He sent it back and they fixed it.

Kind of like buying a car, just shop around and make a sound decision from there. Once he is committed and signs it ain't easy to return it. Good luck.

Re: OT:Any Active Duty Recruiters around here?

What ever he is told get it in writing. I have been in the AF/ANG as a full time Technician for 26 years. My career field is Metals Tech 2A7X1, that's machine and welding shop. We don't sleep in dirt piles and take shower every day. The deployments are not near as long as the others either. I have a...

Re: Let talk the Win 94 in 32-40

I got the mag tube withdrawn and forearm off and it has the MNS on it. What do you suppose the M stands for? I know Mn on the elements table is manganese which is used in steel manufacture. Just curious.

Re: Let talk the Win 94 in 32-40

In the 1916 salesman catalog the 32-40 octagon rifle cost $19.50, while the same gun in the new fangley smokeless shells listing a nickel steel barrel cost $24.50. Sure wish I had some later examples of these catalogs. I did try to removed the forearm on mine but there is a little tiny dent in the m...

Re: NEW (to me) LEVER RIFLE

Is it a 30WCF? I have the Lengendary Frontiersman in 38-55 I bought at a show for 325.00. and put what looks like the same receiver sight on it. It is an outstanding shooter.

Re: Let talk the Win 94 in 32-40

Thanks, I will check this out. Another little tidbit of usefull info. I want to hunt deer with this gun but not at the low velocitys of standard shells. I have a Limited Hi-Wall in 32-40 and don't worry about it, but don't want to beat up the old guy.

Let talk the Win 94 in 32-40

I was reading the three page thread on pressure curves and using smokeless powder in black powder guns. It inspired me to post this. So I have this new to me 94 Win in 32-40 that was made in 1923. We will assume it has a nickel steel receiver with a plain ordinance steel barrel because it is not mar...

Re: model 94 winchester

Put some penetrating oil on them and take a drift punch with the flat end about screw size and tap the upset metal back in place so it resembles a screw again. This will also help loosen them. Get a good fitting driver and try again. Don't just try turning them, kind of bump them if that makes sense.

1982 was supposed to have ended the P/R, pinned and recessed features. There are the new reissued ones that may have this. feature.
