Re: Shotguns for Home Defense
My late uncle retired from the Akron, Ohio Police force. He spent 40+ years on the force and was what I would call a pretty worldly guy. I asked him one time what the was the worst wound he saw in his career. He said far and away, the worst wounds were inflicted by a 12 gauge shotgun and OO or 000 B...

Re: Browning 1886 vs Turnbull 1886
If you buy the Browning, you have very few choices and get a 45/70. I bought a Turnbull, it is my 3rd one. You order the gun like you would from Winchester back in the good old days. Mine is an 1886 with case finish, shotgun butt, 32 inch octagon barrel and chambered in 50/110 Winchester. You do not...

I agree, if they really wanted to make a statement they’d get rid of the locks. You can remove the lock as stated above, but it still isn’t the same. Particularly with the K-frames, they just look “off”. The frame almost has a hump back thing going on and that just bothers me. I don’t complain abou...

This is an interesting question. I find myself grabbing a Turnbull 1895 Cowboy rebarrelled to .50 Alaskan. Because of the silly rules in Ohio, my 30-30, 35 remington and 1895 winchesters in 30-40 and 30-06 are not legal. When I had the 50 made up 15 or so years ago, my 45/70's went to the safe. I us...

I have several, 1886 45/70, 1892 44-40 and 1895 30-06. The benefit for me is the ability to use a short case to transport them, less chance of damage by airlines and being a smaller size, less attention because of the short case.

1. Shot Placement 2. Bullet Construction 3. Cartridge Power The .30-30 only limits the third one, and even there is at least 'moderate' by today's Africa-capable standards; better than the spears, bows, and muzzleloaders used up until the past 120 years or so. Not an engineer, but the Henry is noticeably heavier than the Marlin. So my assumption would be more metal in the Henry. I can't say if it is in spots to make it stronger. Logic says it might be a bit stronger. For pistol rounds, I would guess a 92 to be the strongest.

I have just 1 Winchester 92. It's a Turnbull deluxe takedown in 44-40. I chose 44-40 over 44 Magnum for the following reasons; I shoot Cowboy Action and I use 44-40 for black powder classes. Personally, 71's are so hard to find and such a classic, I would not be inclined to modify one. If I was going to move from .348, the improved version does little in the way of improvement.
