Re: Got the 1885, 30-40 out to the range today
I was told by an ex-Ruger employee that the early #1 & #3 Rifles had Douglas premium Barrels. I know my #3 carbine shot tiny groups at 100 yards. That 22 Hornet in a #3 is a rare bird, as is the 30-40. I also had a 375 Winchester in #3. I shot an Elk Bull in Oregon with the piece. One shot, and ...

If you are switching between Lead and jacketed bullets with out totally cleaning the bore before shooting lead, I would say that might be you problem. That bore must be clean from all Jacketed fouling for the piece to shoot Lead accurately. By clean I mean not a trace of fouling or grey color on a c...

It is a J Frame, looks to be a 1960-70 piece. I have one also. HV ammo is just fine. One of the best 22's S&W produced. A very accurate piece.
The I frame was before 1952.

A rare piece indeed! Keep us posted. The most valuable of the 14/141 series. The 14 1/2 carbine in 44WCF, now that's the most valuable of all! I think they may have made it in 38WCF also.
