Re: Need new holsters or larger pockets

One had been shortened to 4 inches with a wide hammer spur welded on and the other was a rough model 1909. Both are in 45 colt.

The previous owner had also converted another 71 deluxe to full length mag with the 24 inch barrel. He was in his 70s and raising money for a sailboat. If he's still available I'll ask who did the work, he may have done it himself though.

Re: Who fiddles with a .32 ACP these days?

Doc, the plan is to get her to the range and shoot my revolvers, then rent a s&w shield or similar to see what she likes. If she likes an auto she'll need one sprung to easily rack the slide.

If she insists on the 32, I'll look for one that will handle 32 mag.

I used to have a sweet little colt 1903 but traded it away. Still have a seecamp but haven't taken it out of the safe in years. My Father in law who was a WWII and Korean War Army Sgt convinced my wife the 32acp is all she needs.

My early Remington 700 custom kevlar stock in 280rem. I can drag it and me up and down the washes in the Mojave Nat'l preserve and still make it back to camp at the end of the day. Usually cover 7 to 12 miles according to my gps, if we're hunting the far corners of the valley.

How'd they make them? Just curious as Grandma was a farmer's wife and would mash them first, then make them into patties and fry them. She grew up in the Ozarks, no telling where they picked up the habit. What's a tea cake?

Re: Picked up a beater

I follow... the full mag 71 is one that I'd take into weather and terrain that I won't take the carbine into. Not a beater but it won't lose any value going up the mountain.

The carbine receiver has carry wear on the bottom so it's not mint and I'd be comfortable in the woods with it.

Yeah Guys, maybe not a beater but with the upgrades I'm not worried about nicks and dings on the full mag carbine. That original carbine was my Grail gun, so I'm more protective of it. I'll keep both in the original chambering and put the savings toward good bullets and a change of shorts... for aft...

Hey Six, my carbine is #20181 and the custom is #21956. Imagine I've got some work to do as the barrel band feels like it's welded in place. The forend feels floated though. Interesting configuration. I really like the extra rounds if things get exciting.

Heh, the carbine has more carry wear than you can see but it's nice enough that I'd want to use something else on a hard hunt. The customized model 71 might be the perfect beater/backup rifle with the receiver drilled for a scope mount, barrel shortened at 20 inches, and full mag. With today's bulle...

Kind of a foul weather backup to my 71 carbine. Both made in 1941.
