Why "NO OIL" on a file? Is it bad for the file, or just not necessary?

I was gonna, but after I sanded the 70's-era Marlin 'varnish' off the old wood and saw how nice it was, I just oil-finished it. The camera does it auotmatically. Just trip the shutter and move the camera in an arc. The photo I posted is un-retouched. I'll take some better pix next time I'm out at the farm. Awesome. Cut - $175 Is the reason the "Cut" is the costliest part due to also having to shorten the tubular magazine and so forth? I'd think labor-wise the "cut" part would be almost the easiest, vs. the labor and skill needed for a careful re-crown, proper dovetailing, and decent sight ...

I've always found it interesting that the venerable .45 Colt wasn't chambered in a venerable lever-gun until the 1980's - kind of like not trying to mix peanut-butter and chocolate to make a Reece's Cup until centuries after both had been discovered and used individually.
