Rangerider 7, Yes, you could order a rifle butt but usually most carbines were not special ordered, especially during that time frame. But as your rifle was made right after the war, it was common for Winchester to slap on different kinds of wood just to get the rifle out and make some money as time...

Here is my 1858 new model army. This one has been reblued and a red king post front sight added. Bill, (thats a nice '58 you have!) Anyway, look at the length of the grip on your gun and the length of the grip on Coyote Nose's gun. I believe he has the Beals as the grip frame was shortened when the...

Hey Sixgun! You shoulda done it! That 1000 fps was from a RAVEN!! From a decent .25 I am sure they would do better. Besides .. everybody should reload with a magnifying glass and tweezers at least once. Hey Jim, How do you like this for a picture? Next closest thing to a webcam. As I was reading yo...

This is all I use. I probably have a dozen of them. Made by Hunter. Model 110. Because I did not want to alter the rifle in any way, for this 1886, I simply put a slip-on butt pad and made my own little gizmo for attaching the sling swivel to the buttstock. The front of the sling can be attached via...

Yep, the pickin's sure are gettin' slim, even here in the East, where at one time, the only guns that brought money were engraved or special ordered guns in high condition. The 3500 on that '92 td may be a little on the high side but not outrageous. Now if you would just plunk down 28 nice crispy c-...

Years ago I reloaded cast flat points for the 25ACP ... a 48 gr. cast flat point bullet at 1000 fps ain't a powder puff. It is a pain reloading the durn things though. Jim, funny you should say that. I have carried a 1908 Colt from time to time. Functioned flawlessly. The real reason for a .25 auto is not the killing power but the psycological power----------nobody wants to get shot, even with a .22-----because it leads to hospital visits which bad guys don't like or there is that chance for a f...

That's probably about right. Both CAS competitors and Cowboy silhouette shooters have found that the rifle commemoratives are good shooters and a good value, driving up actual prices over the $400 they were just a few short years ago. Griff is right on! Just a few short years ago, most commeratives...

While we are on this subject I'd like to pose a question to the SAA board of Regents. Since Colt does not chamber an SAA in .44 Spec. only anymore, Is the chambering of .44-40 that they do offer with the optional .44 Spec. as accurate as one chambered only in .44 ? Any thoughts on the .44-40 cartri...

I may be all wet here, and even though I personally have not had the best of luck in the reliability dept. with Marlin 94's in 44mag, I believe for this game, I would give one of the long barreled Marlin Cowboys with the octagon barrel a try, because I believe it would be the most accurate. I saw this coming several years ago. I truly expect Remington, Marlin, and Savage to go the way of Winchester....

There is a lot of truth on the Colt. First, If someone was going to drop me in Alaska with one handgun and I had to live on it, it would be a Ruger NM. Colts 3rd gens. are expensive but when it comes time to sell, you get your money back if the time frame is several years or so. Won't do that with a...
